Daiichi Life Group became the second largest life insurance company in Japan.

Dai-ichi Life Vietnam became a subsidiary of Dai-ichi Life Group.
Established Star Union Daiichi Life in India.
Acquired shares of Tower Australia Group Limited in Australia (currently TAL).
Daiichi Life Group was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Acquired shares of Panin Insurance in Indonesia (currently Panin Daiichi Insurance).
Protective Life Corporation in United States became a subsidiary of Daiichi Life Group.
